It was the Viking war axe from the beginning of 9th century. It had asymmetrical blade, lengthened in the bottom part of the edge (this sticking out part was called chin or beard, or in old German barda). That’s why this axe can be also called “Barda”.*The axe of this type was predecessor of medieval bearded axe.
